He Kills Because His Love Was Pushed Away…

I came across a news article from Malaysia’s newspaper, ohh…sayang, that really left my jaw hanging.. This event happened in October 2008. My friends insisted that I post this up & I meant to do it way back but it didn’t really happen. Oh no… This is not the normal forbidden love story. I’ve tried my best to translate it to English & inserted a copy of the original article below. Here’s how the story goes…

“The murder happened in Kampung Rawa Semut, West Java. A teenage girl was murdered by her own 23 year-old brother because his love for her was forbidden by his parents. The family suffered a bigger blow when they found out that her own brother was the prime suspect of the murder. It was believed that he had kept his feelings for her for a very long time. The 14 year-old victim is the only daughter out of the four children they had. Their parents, Manisha &  Husien Gunawan, found it hard to believe that their favourite child would die in such a gruesome death. Furthermore, knowing that their 2nd son was the suspect is like rubbing salt to the wound.

The cold blooded murder also shook the whole village. The villagers immediately gathered in the victim’s house as soon as they heard about the murder. Novi was found lying motionless in her room after her youngest brother, Dede, tried to wake her up from sleep. A strong blow to the neck was believed to be the cause of death. She was believed to be sleeping during the attack and her neck was nearly chopped off due to the blow. Evidence showed that she did not have the time to defend herself during the attack.

It was even more saddening when her mother, Manisha, started sobbing and wailing calling out Novi’s name. She was determined that the killer was her own son, Dwi. Both parents were away at work since dawn when the incident happened. Their other children would start getting ready for school at about 6am. While they were getting ready, Dede walked into her room to wake her up. As soon as he entered the room, he saw his sister lying motionless and covered with blood on the bed.

According to the young boy, he didn’t feel anything wrong or heard any kind of arguments the night before. Upon the gruesome discovery, the immediate family members immediately pointed to the suspect. Their suspiscion grew even more when Dwi went missing from the scene as soon as the body was found. Before this incident, their parents were already worried about their daughter’s safety when they saw the change in Dwi’s behaviour. This was followed by his affection towards Novi as if she was his lover. The attention and care showed by Dwi was definitely not like a brother but more to a lover. He was always writing poems and love letters in Novi’s books to show and prove his feelings for her. Besides that, he had also mentioned before that he will always take care and protect his sister from any of her friends’ teases.

Soon his brother’s love towards her made her life more miserable and she began to feel like a prisoner. According to their father, Dwi has been showing his unusual affections towards his younger sister since they were young. She was often pampered, hugged and kissed by him. She even sat on top of him while watching tv. At that point of time, Husien treated this as a normal brotherly love towards his sister. In addition, the then 6 year-old Dwi was even sent to live in the Eastern part of Java when he passed his STM, away from his family due to the financial crisis they were facing at that time.

As time passed by, both parents realised that his love towards her was too different and unusual. His change of behaviours while Novi was in secondary school in 2004 also added to their suspicion. He even imposed strict rules for Novi to follow. She was to inform him of all her daily activities. If she was to be questioned by him, she was to answer and his permission was also needed before she were to go anywhere.

Whenever his behaviour was questioned, Dwi even told his parents that he will not hesitate to threaten or kill anybody and that includes his own parents. His behaviour became even more worrying when he got jealous and grew mad after finding out that Novi was very close with Dede. Apart from the jealousy he felt whenever a guy tried to be close with her, he also threatened Novi after she was said to have pushed his love away. Dwi had even mentioned before that there will be a bloodshed if his love was forbidden.

Worried about their son’s abnormal behaviour, Husien had even threw Dwi out of their house. Because of that he tried to poison his dad but he was saved just in time. As the days went by, his erratic behaviour became worse and worse. As the situation became more threatening and dangerous, Manisha decided to separate both of them. She tried to talk Novi into sleeping in their neighbour’s house but it was always turned down.

The sense of remorse and anguish hit them as they felt that they had failed to protect and save the life of their own daughter. Among close friends, both siblings were known as a quiet individual who likes to keep to themselves. Husien belived that his son’s behaviour was influenced by the black magic that he had learned while staying with his grandmother in East Java.”

I heard about those news from Phils too. I believe there must be something physiological disturbance from him. I think he needs a psychiatric evaluation so he can get help.

Shocking and disturbing. Why would he love his own sister like she is his girlfriend? Is it black magic or is he suffering from some kind of psychological illness?

It’s so sad that I’m not surprised. Especially after I saw that this happened in Java. Over here, these kind of weird things happen everyday. From homo serial killer, to underage marriage, to family suicides, to reselling expired food, to making and selling food using spoiled meat with extra dosage of preservatives for corpses…
And these are only a few of the crazy things people do.
I really wonder what’s going on in their heads….
