Sitex 2008 – What I Got During The Weekend…

Yeay! My weekend was ubber great but super duper luper tuper tiring… Managed to survive the hell crowd at Sitex 2008 held in Singapore Expo.. I went there on Saturday at about 5pm.. The road was all jammed up, cars and people are everywhere! It took us very long to get a parking lot.. Well anyway, we managed to squeeze through the crowd. It was damn packed…!!

I knew what I wanted so I headed straight to the Sony booths while peeking at others like Toshiba, NEC & Fujitsu when I have the time.. I thought it was going to be fast but well, it took me 4 hours to finally decide and buy it. After much thinking, I was down to Fujitsu Tablet PC or Sony Vaio. Both are good models. Then it was down to the outlook.. I went back and forth the two booths located in different halls to have a look. Ok, this is what I do. I see specs first, then outlook & the freebies play a small part.

So I went to Fujitsu first to have a feel of it. Lifebook T5010VB (Tablet PC)! It’s size is good, the weight is good, the warranty and service is superb, battery life is up to 6 hours!! Plus you get a Nintendo DS Lite for free among other freebies they were giving! But I was not thrilled with the design.. I don’t like the buttons at the bottom of the monitor.. To me personally, it’s an eyesore… After that, I headed on down to the Sony booth to have a look at VGN-Z27GN/X. Hands down, Vaio’s outlook is way better. This model actually replaces the one I initially wanted, the VGN-SZ79. They said that the model has been discontinued… no idea why! But what the hell, I love this lappy… Sleek, light, Blu-ray feature & most importantly, the battery life is good.. up to 6 hours also! I also got an extra battery (very important), privacy filter (to prevent people from snooping around) among many others… Warranty is pretty expensive though.. $482 for 2 years extended warranty!!! (double of Courts). To me, both laptops are good but it was down to looks.. That’s why I chose Vaio. If you like similar features but without Blu-ray, go for Fujitsu… Recommended! Be warned though.. Both models might burn a hole in your pocks! ;) But well, it’s bloody worth it! Of course, depending on what you are using it for… For normal surfings and basic use, it’ll be a waste of money.

And then, it didn’t end there… I headed down again, went through the hell traffic and crowd again.. It was the last day yesterday. The crowd was not as much as Saturday but it’s still crowded.. I was already aiming at Sony again.. This time I wanted to buy a HD handycam. Of course, I needed to get the best bargain and best item around. So along the way, I took a look at Canon and JVC. Sharp camcorders not there so it was one down. Most of the camcorders were sold out! Unbelievable.. but well, that’s one of the cons of going on the last day even though they might slash the price.. JVC camcorder, GZ-HD40 to be exact.

Hmm…. not as great.. only 10x optical zoom and battery life of 3 hours ONLY with not much freebies. They were giving away things like tripod, bag, wide angle lens, filter, etc.. On to Canon, so far so good… but the BIGGEST downside is the highest megapixels was below 4!!! Huh??? Oh wells… Last but not least, Sony HDR-SR12E! The one I bought after not much thinking… 10.2 megapixels, CMOS sensor, a viewfinder, 120GB hard disk drive with memory card for extra capacity. It’s light, small, easy to carry and most importantly the feature I like most, you can take pictures while recording without disturbing the recording and you have manual focus as well (same like DSLR cameras) !!! On top of that, I get a photo printer, DVD burner & tripod among other things…  The salesperson over there, a SONY staff member, Nizam, was very very informative and helpful… he knows the products very well indeed. He even provided a good demonstration even though there were many people around. It did manage to catch the passer-by’s attention.. Good for you guys! ;P

I love what I bought… so far I haven’t use the camcorder.. but still.. And to top it all off, I found out later that the Sony VAIO laptop is a belated birthday present to me from Jaz… Definitely a present worth waiting for!!! Totally over the moon now!! Can strike off 2 items from my wish list! Yeay!! :)

* By any chance if I got any of the specs wrong, blame it on the respective salesperson.. I just passed on the info that was relayed by them.
