The Root Of All Evil [Part III]

Digg me

Here comes another part of my drama life. My work issue. YES! It’s still not settled! Let me do a quick summary. Ex-employer owe me a few months’ salary. I reported them to the authority and they set up a hearing session for both of us in a room with a judge of course. They failed to turn up so I won the case and had a letter of demand sent to them for payment by a specific date. Nearing that date, they contacted me and asked me to withdraw my claims and that we should have a private settlement. (DUH! That’s what I’ve been asking for and you’ve never kept up with it!) Pfffft! Well anyway, after seeking the authority’s advise and thinking hard about it, I agreed to let them have their way.. (Wait! I know what you’re thinking.. Let me finish my story first.) And so, I said to them I will agree to what they want IF they agree to pay me the full amount that they are owing and to sign a statement agreeing to the amount owed. (Recap: The authority can only help me get back what they owe for the past one year from the date of my report. So I lost thousands there.. They should really banish this rule! It’s stupid.. 1 year only???  &%@$ !!!) So they agreed and I was fine with it.

And so, I met a lawyer who drafted out a statement for them to sign. Time was already running out cos it’s either this or the authority’s  court case. (Which if happens, I have to pay for.. and it’s not cheap. You’re supposed to help people! Not sucking out more of my money in this kind of situation!! *&@$!!!!). It was already the last day and I have to make them sign the statement. I was being kind enough, as usual, to offer to drive wherever to meet them regardless of where they are. Guess what?? The ex-manager replied to me saying she’s busy as she had classes and that she can’t meet me. And I was thinking, “School? No problem! There’s always other ways.” And I told her that we could meet after her classes and I really didn’t mind the time. The settlement had to be signed that day or I’ll proceed with the court order. And so I forced her for a meeting cos obviously the private settlement is way better than going for the authority and lose a few thousands. Her next reply was the BEST I could ever asked for. She replied back,”We owe you money, not our lives!” I was gobsmacked. How dare she!!

The next day, I went to the authority’s office and just their luck, it was closed!! And so, I called up my ex-employers again and we agreed to meet another day. We met and they signed the agreement. So I withdrew my charges and waited patiently for my hard-earned, long overdue paychecks to arrive. Deadline passed, as usual, payment’s still not in. I asked her and she said she’ll send the cheque rightaway and to check my mail a few days later. I was furious. I emphasized to her as stated in the statement, money to be in by deadline, not to send out cheque after deadline. Few days later, 2 cheques came in. I banked them in immediately and lo and behold! As anticipated, one cheque bounced. I texted her, told her about the bounced cheque and that we have nothing to say to each other anymore. Well, she texted me and begged me to give them one last chance. Again I’m giving them one final chance and trust me, this time round should there be any more breach of agreement, they will be talking to my lawyer instead of me. Unappreciative humans!

Everything’s been smooth-sailing so far and up till today, only one more cheque left before I can finally close the case.Sometimes I think, if MTV were to sign me up and make my life as one of those reality shows you see nowadays, they would have made millions of dollars. Hahahaha! So much drama! I seriously need a break.. It’s just too much for my puny brain to take..

That’s a lot of drama to take alrite! It’s really difficult to get money out of them yes? You are right – they did not even appreciate that you have given them so many chances to pay up! Besides, they don’t even to need to pay the thousands owed to you! Yeah, that’s a stupid 1 year rule alrite – doesn’t make any sense to me.

Wow! Looks like you are in a battlefield with your ex-employer as well as M and gang! You must be a strong woman to be able to take it all! Hope everything will be resolved soon : )

You were so kind, you should have sued them for good so they can stop from doing this to other people:P Yet, you have chosen to be more patient and understanding and that’s the best move. I think you will have more blessings in return :)

glad that they finally paid you although not fully yet and it is good that they are afraid of the court. I know some companies here could not be bother about the authrities as they are aware that the cost alone would turn people off. Hopefully the rest of the money would come in soon ya. all the best!

What a mess! I’d be furious if I were you. That is just ridiculous. It sounds like they are just dragging this out to see if you’ll give up. People purposely make things hard thinking that people will think it’s too much work (or money, time etc.) to get what is owed to them. But, I don’t blame you for giving them one more chance, hiring a lawyer is a lot of money and hassle. It’s a hard situation to be sure. I’m glad you got at least part of your money though. Good luck!
